How To Move From Nihilism To Hope

The universe, as it stands, is far from perfect.

In order for something to live, something else must die.

Yes, this happens every day.

Think about it.

Growing a blade of grass requires energy from the sun.

Technically, the sun is not an infinite source of energy. Every ray of light it gives off to grow plants takes away energy from the sun.

Yes, the sun is in the process of dying. We just don’t notice it.

The grass that cattle enjoy as well as the greens in the salad you’re eating had life in them before they were used as sustenance.

That burger or “pares” that you enjoy was once part of a living being. It sustains you to the expense of its life.

You work so hard every day to provide for your children. It comes at the cost of your life too.

We live then we die.

Sounds kind of hopeless, right?

I sound like a nihilist this way.

This progression from life to death is ultimately the result of sin.

The Bible says in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death.”

It’s a hard pill to swallow. Death is the result of sin.

Sin = Death

And this is why it’s natural for all of us to want to escape it. No one wants to simply die away.

It’s natural to feel that way.

Here’s the worst part: You can’t do anything about it no matter how hard you try.

Nobody’s perfect. Not you. Not me.

No amount of philantrophy, good deeds, or even religious rituals can buy your way into eternity.

Even if you’ve done the greatest good you can do, you cannot measure up to a standard called perfection.

The only one who gets to live forever is that which is perfect.

Unfortunately, no one is. Not a thing in this material world.

But here’s the Good News: God loves you so much.

God doesn’t want you to just wither away.

He certainly knows you can’t pay your way to immortality.

In order that you might have eternal life, He sent Jesus to die on the cross as the perfect sacrifice that you might have eternal life. (John 3:16)

That salvation is a free gift.

All you have to do is repent from sin and believe that Christ has paid for it all for eternity.

Not just one Sunday. Not just every time you pray.

You read it right. It’s for eternity.

This is how you experience freedom.

Call upon the name of the LORD and be saved.

That is the Gospel, plain and simple.

After that, He will equip you to do good and spread His love. :)

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:8-10
